Local Rules Amendment

2/15/2023

The following amendment to Rule 78.6 Inventory is effective March 1, 2023. Effective that date the fiduciary will be required to send a copy of the inventory to all named heirs and beneficiaries who addresses are known. The Certificate of Service of Inventory (LCPC Form 6.5), to be filed with the Inventory is available online at www.lucas-co-probate-ct.org. Please address any comments to nmiller@lucasprobate.org

Marriage License Department Phone Hours Change

9/23/22

Due to short staffing and an increased volume in applications and requests, effective 9-26-2022, the marriage license department will only be receiving calls from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. daily. (The department will still be processing marriage license applications and copy requests between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily.)

Costs for new guardianship applications

8/1/2022

Effective Thursday, July 28th, case numbers will be assigned to all new applications and successor applications for guardianship. For example, if an application has been filed for a new guardianship, when a competing application is filed, it will be assigned an additional case number. Once a guardian is appointed, the cases for any additional applications will be closed. If a case is already open and the guardian is either removed or resigns, the successor guardianship application will be assigned a new case number and the old case will be closed once the proper filings have been received and approved. All new applicants will be required to pay a deposit of $338.00 plus costs for any additional motions, waivers, and notices to next-of-kin.

The newest three-hour guardianship video, "Elder Abuse" is now available to watch. The online version of the course is available for guardians to take at their convenience. Important: This material is for reference purposes only. Education credit will not be authorized without prior approval of the appointing court, pursuant to Sup.R. 66.06 and 66.07.

The Rules of Superintendence for the Court of Common Pleas, Probate Division are hereby amended and adopted in accordance with Rule 5 of the Rules of Superintendence for the Courts of Ohio, effective January 1, 2021.

Marriage License Applications and Requests for Certified Copies are available online. If you have a situation requiring the issuance of an immediate marriage license, call the marriage license department at 419-213-4750 to discuss the matter with the court and receive further instructions. We are not allowing public access at this time.

Important Information-Compliant DL-ID Driver License

January 31, 2020

If you intend to obtain a Compliant DL-ID the BMV will require to you present proof of a Name Change if the current legal name you use is different than the name listed on your Birth Certificate, Passport, or documents issued by the US Dept of Homeland Security. The Lucas County Probate Court can help you solve some of the problems you may encounter. See the link below:
